She's right tho, if Yakone was killed instead this war Amon started would never have happened.

Now don't get me wrong here I'm not calling Aang a wuss or anything, I totally respect his decision to stand by his morals throughout his entire life. But the fact that Yakone was pretty much the source of the war in Republic City makes me think, what would happen if Aang DID go ahead and kill him? Repulic city would certainly be a different place that's for sure! Here are a few things I think would be different:

-Without Tarrlock there to manipulate the council so easily I believe Tenzin would have a more powerful position in the council.

-Obviously there would be no equalists.

-Sato would not be such a jerk under Amon's vengeful influence, he would never even think to consider killing his own daughter.

-Would Korra still run off to Republic City? I'm honestly not entirely sure of this, but I like to think she still would. Being sheltered her whole life she would be eager to go see what's out there.

THAT'S ALL I GOT, what do you guys think would be different? 8)

This is on tumblr now too btw: [link]

Look who's talking, let's not forget who created the Dai-li
TheWatcherofWorlds Featured By Owner Sep 4, 2014
she created the dai-li?
Shadowlord123456 Featured By Owner Sep 4, 2014
it was during a peasant uprising the lower class citizens thought the earth king had outlived his purpose, they stormed he upper ring and destroyed many artifacts, Kyoshi was summoned by the king to squash the peasants but she refused to do so, the king ordered his guards to arrest her but she overpowered them, she then convinced the king to hear the peasants out and listen to their grievances and in exchange she would create a group to protect the cultural heritage of the great city, they became known as the Dai-li!
TheWatcherofWorlds Featured By Owner Sep 4, 2014
but then they got corrupt right?
Shadowlord123456 Featured By Owner Sep 7, 2014
Kyoshi failed to see she was basically creating a secret police for the earth kingdom, Ba-sing Sei is a city unlike any other where walls keep people apart and only the law defenders the Dai-li went through the walls, as we've seen many times in Last Airbender and recently in Korra if one controls the Dai-li they control Ba-Sing-sei and in extension the Earth Kingdom that's because if one controls the law enforcers of the city they essentially control what is "right" in the city, whatever the Dai-li do is "right" in Ba-sing sei things like hiding century old wars or kidnapping air benders for armies.

hah I love this, Kyoshi is awesome and I actually like how pragmatic she is

that said they may have still been some form of equalists but maybe less organised since they didn't have a figurehead...that actually might have been just as hard to deal with but who can say
Grusnoid Featured By Owner Aug 18, 2012
Still the fact remains. You kill one lunatic, there are fifty more ready to take power. It's easy to play on the fears, and superstitions of the masses. If bender, and non bender tensions where that high, another person would have taken advantage regardless of Yakone's death. The Bolsheviks came to power in Russia, by playing on the failures of Czar Nicholas the second. Mussolini came to power in Italy, by playing on the fears of anti-communists. Hitler and his Nazi Party sized power in Germany, by manipulating Germans into believing that Jews, and other minorities where the cause of Germany's aliments. And so on, and so on. Evil prevails when good fails to act, and the sins of the past, always effect future generations. There is no way around it, but to study the mistakes of those who came before, and try to build toward a brighter future.

...Dang. A lot of problems would have been solved but someone probably would have tried to bring Benders down anyway.

My sister said stuff like this when we watched LOK
If anybody has ever watched or read something with time travel, you know that it is never easy
And I love Amon and Tarrlok, so I'm glad they were in the series :3
But of course past Avatar always leaves current Avatar some problems
Aang inherited Kyoshi and Roku's problems, and Korra got Aang's leftover problems too
Can't the world stay peaceful! Jeez I feel like I keep having to clean up this mess every lifetime. . . .
AmonymousMe Featured By Owner Jul 6, 2012
In Aang's defence, killing Yakone could have resulted in a whole different set of problems (kind of like when Kyoshi inadvertitly killed Chin). Whatever our actions, they can have both good and bad consequences. Also, Tarrlok's absence from the council doesn't gaurantee that Tenzin would be listened to, there may still be equalist's, just in another form and without Amon's leadership, and whether it was Amon's influence or not that made Sato such a jerk, who can say either way. You have a point about Korra's journey to Republic City. Sorry for the semi ramble...

How could Aang talk back to Kyoshi if they're the same person? Just saying...but this made me lol :D
Giftieat Featured By Owner Jun 27, 2012  Professional Digital Artist
Aang talked to the other avatars quite a bit in ATLA, Avatars can just do that I guess lol.

RusLove21 Featured By Owner Jun 25, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
i think without the whole equilist war situation, korra might not have been able to unlock her air bending and finish her avatar training. Aand did say that she had to reach her lowest point in order to reach a higher place and with amon not being there to take away her bending, who knows how long it would've taken her to finally get in touch with the spirit world and the like
Takimashou Featured By Owner Jun 25, 2012  Hobbyist Artisan Crafter
I think she wouldn't run off to the city, cos Tenzin would be able to take time out to train her at the pole, cos the council would be much more stable without Tarrlok's manipulation. So she'd be able to finish her avatar training, which is all she ever really wanted in the first place. I'm not sure anything else would have occurred to her until she was fully realised. which could have taken a while without any of the catalysts provided by republic city.

I think , however, there would still be bubbling resentment about bending superiority, and rightly so. It would have become a problem sooner or later.

And that's why you just kill the son-of-bitch Aang
Am I the only one that notices the Avatars have this habit of ultimately screwing the world over...
Kyoshi with Chin causing a town to hate the Avatar
Roku causing a century-long war
and Aang causing an anti-bending revolution
AmonymousMe Featured By Owner Jul 7, 2012
Killing Aang!? That's not over the top in the slightest...
Yeah some of the Avatars action's have had detrimental consequences, but they have done substantial good as well.
